I have reached that point in life, where I am paranoid by fear psychosis, where justice is a utopian dream and being a woman is like being stuck in maze of helplessness.

As the nation/state laments for justice (For Jisha, the victim of a brutal and ghastly rape), I find this whole act of cribbing for justice ephemeral.  We all know that this struggle for justice will just wane in a couple of weeks. No matter how many hash tags trend in the social media, how many protests demanding justice or the candle light vigils or the silent prayers, you think at the end of it all you get Justice??? Justice, humbug! Justice to me is a mere hypocrisy. A double standard term where people use it generously to feign sympathy and express a moment’s adrenalin rush.

How many Decembers have passed since the Nirbhaya incident? How many Februarys have passed since the Soumya rape case? Was justice met to any of these bold ladies? Rape is a violation of a body it kills the soul, not just the body. The agony, the trauma of rape is inexplicable. Yes, we all know that, the society knows it, the judiciary knows it, but what has been done to balm the wounds? Oh, I forgot they were all given death sentence. Yes, Death Sentence – Capital Punishment! Wow, finally justice is met. Curtains down and the satire ends.  Applause!!!

I can’t help but lampoon at the society, judiciary and the executives who have all failed to protect the women of this country. Where judiciary has failed miserably to deliver justice, and executives to protect the women folks of this nation. By awarding capital punishment to the perpetrators of crime ain’t Justice. It’s nowhere near justice. For we all know what happened to the Nirbhaya convicts and Govinda Chami. (The convicts were sentenced to capital punishment but execution stayed, thanks to the judiciary!) And, to the society, may I ask where were you all when the hapless Dalit woman knew she was being preyed? Where was this Janmaithri police? And now this whole drama of justice – hail hypocrisy!

Dear Jisha, I am sorry for being a part of the society and the country which failed to bring justice to you. You’ll be in the news for some more days and like your predecessors you’ll be done and dusted. Soon you’ll be forgotten amidst the heated race for power. No amount of empathy can soothe your soul. With over 38 wounds and your entrails exposed, you underwent the gauntlet all alone. And, yet your murderer is still at large. Now that you have left the world for good, but we (women) still continue living in our respective rape schedule. Clinching our bags closer while on the road alone, feigning boldness/ignorance over the catcalls and constantly checking to see if someone is following has become a part of our lifestyle.

After all this, how can you not doubt the credibility of justice? Justice today is smitten with falsehood and fake promises. And I can’t help but be disillusioned with the concept called justice.
