Old Age

If it was not for them, we would not have treaded this world,
And our life would have been blurred.
They define our existence,
That is again a bitter-sweet subsistence.
Parents they are,
Who made us what we are.
Right from the womb to the world we face today, they have nurtured us with their unfathomable love and unconditional care. Yes, I am talking about those wonderful creators of our mere existence who are now entering into the twilight years of their life. Old age is an inevitable stage in the realm of life. And as adults, now is the chance for us to take care of our aging parents who have slogged and slaved to bring us up.
Indeed old age is a second childhood. They age to become babies that require care and attention. With all those unreasonable questions, unsatisfied answers, unwanted arrogance you may go mad at them for being so difficult. But remember you were also a child and they had the patience to put up with you. So keep calm and be patient with your new babies.
The only thing in the world that does not wait for us is time. Time is irreversible and considering the fact you have very little time to spend with your parents, set aside your busy schedule and get pampered by your loving parents. No matter how old you become, for parents you are still their precious baby. So, spend time with them and immortalise those wonderful times to be cherished for a life time.
Just because their visions become blurred, ears deaf, memory faded and pills an inevitable cuisine to their diet, they are not “items” to be dumped into an old age home or care centres. Obviously one does not invite diseases and they just happen to you. So, the best way to take care of your ageing parents is by loving them and not giving them the feel of being a sick person.
There is nothing more appeasing than to breathe fresh air, get cuddled by the breeze, kissed by the warmth of the sun and tickled by the water. Take your aged parents out once a while for it can be a respite to their solitary existence.Of course, all of us our busy in our respective lives and in our frantic run to mount the ladder of success we tend to forget the ones who have created us. We take them for granted and ignore them in the race to survival. Aged parents are as fragile as a new born and they require care and attention from their children. Involve them in your busy life, ask opinions, integrate them into your lives and you will see the delight in their eyes. Just give them the attention they need and you will see the glow in them. After all, they are not curios in the showcase that can be thrown into the attic once they become old and uninteresting.
Old is gold so cherish them, cling on to them until you can and don’t let them go. From changing your nappies and cleaning your puke and forsaking their sleep they have taken care of you inexplicably. Now is your turn to take care of your aged parents and reiterate the love that they have showered on you unconditionally. Life is short so why not live it to the fullest with our loved ones and have no regrets!
