Singapore

An island country in Southeast Asia, Singapore is a jewel that attracts tourists. We visited this country along with Malaysia in the summer of 2023. As a south Indian, Singapore was a popular name and I grew up listening to many people’s vacation stories. A part of me (read jealousy) assumed it to be an overhyped travel destination. However, the summer of 2023 proved me wrong and Singapore serenaded me with its immaculate roads, sleek skyscrapers, a myriad of destinations, and lush greenery.

Singapore Zoo
This zoo is a must-visit place even if you aren’t a wildlife enthusiast, for it has something for everyone. This zoo was a paradise for my son, and he enjoyed every bit of this zoo. Also called the Mandai Wildlife Reserve, Singapore Zoo has plenty of activities, too. We had chosen the River Wonders and skipped the Night Safari and Birds Paradise. Make sure to start early, for there is much to see here. What I loved the most about the zoo is its setting and maintenance, which is truly outstanding.

Gardens by the Bay – Where Architecture Meets Nature
Being a plant-lover, this was my favourite in all of Singapore. Of course, Singapore is known for its greenery, but Gardens by the Bay is its true magnum opus. The best time to visit is before dusk, so you can see its glory in daylight as well. As you enter, a towering tree-like structure greets you. They also had an ‘Avataar’ experience in the garden, which is wholesome and enchanting. They also have the misty Cloud Forest. There’s the pretty Flower Dome and the iconic Supertree Grove at Gardens by the Bay. And no words would suffice to express its beauty.

Sentosa – An island that teems with entertainment.
Sentosa is a Singaporean island with convenient mainland connections. You can take a monorail, cable car, or walk to reach this fun island.
Moreover, the iconic Universal Studios sits here. Additionally, Sentosa houses a variety of beaches, hues of cafes, water parks, and aquariums. In a nutshell, Sentosa is an island trove of entertainment. With its plenty of choices, Sentosa quenches your thirst for thrill and fun.

City Attractions – The Best of Singapore
Singapore offers you an array of activities and places to see. However, we chose a few of the city’s attractions due to time constraints. A visit to Singapore isn’t complete without visiting the iconic symbol – the Merlion Statue. The statue of the half-lion and half-fish sits in Merlion Park, making it a perfect spot for Instagram-worthy photos. Take a relaxed walk at the park and absorb the Marina Bay Sands vista. As we stayed at Clarke Quay, we were able to enjoy its riveting nightlife and dining options throughout. Apart from these two, we also had a glimpse of Little India and Chinatown. Both these places fit well in the vibrant tapestry of Singapore.

Jewel Changi Airport – an airport that blends travel, entertainment, and retail.
The Jewel Changi Airport is one of the best airports in the world. The concept of this airport is mind-blowing, as it not only connects people to places but also weaves some memories while doing so. I bet no traveler can get bored here. For adrenaline junkies, there is a giant slide here that you could try. Nature lovers can stroll through the butterfly park or get awed by an indoor Rain Vortex. Again, if you are still bored, you can watch a movie in the airport’s open-air theatre. This airport, unlike any other, spoils you with an array of choices.

Singapore is surreal. It also offers great connectivity with its public transportation. And, it’s easy for travellers. Overall, Singapore was a fine summer vacation that enchanted me with its charm and grace. A city that exudes cleanliness and entertainment – Singapore has awed me beyond words.
