In this technological era with developments in its peak and Homo sapiens engaged in a rat race to reach the highest point in the ladder of social luxury, the scope of expectation has spiraled high.  In fact man is burdened with expectation from everywhere and everyone.

The moment a child is born into this chaotic and competitive world he is showered with expectations, replacing the traditional showers of blessings from the elders of the family. The onus is now on the individual to live up to the expectations of others. He/ She is expected to be a good son/ daughter to the parents, a diligent student to the school, an intellect to the University, a hardworking and meticulous employee at his workplace, a loving spouse, a doting parent and above all a law abiding and a patriotic citizen of the nation. A large amount of expectation is endowed on an individual by the society and thereby he is caught in this vast labyrinth of expectations.

Expectation can also be subjective. There are people, the happy-go-lucky types or the wayward types, who give damn to expectations. These are the audacious few ones who tune life not according to the expectations of others. They lead an expectation free life devoid of any obligations to the society.

Is there an escape from expectations? Why do expectations turn into obligations? What if you don’t meet anyone’s expectation? Can one be free of expectations? Eliciting answers to these volleys of questions is not as easy as it may seem to be. In a negative light, the questions can be looked as downright rhetoric but in a positive light one has to take expectation in ones stride.  In this globalized world expectations are inevitable. The ultimate choice is the individuals. Either you deal with it or give a damn to it.
